Let an engineer introduce you to the 3rd generation Prius.
2010 Toyota Prius unveiled to a thrilled crowd on Valentine’s Day.
A select group of enthusiasts provide their reactions to a special “sneak peek” unveiling of the all-new 2010 Toyota Prius at the Toronto Auto Show.
The 3rd Generation Prius that was designed for every generation.
Since its inception in 1997, the Toyota Prius has been a car of firsts. From the world’s first mass-produced hybrid to the first vehicle to feature a full-hybrid system – the ability to run on just the engine, battery, or a combination of both – to the world’s first full-hybrid vehicle with over a million sold worldwide.
Take a drive in the 2010 Prius.
The 2010 Prius features a 90% newly developed Hybrid Synergy Drive system. Engineered to improve overall power by 22% while simultaneously reducing fuel consumption by 7% compared to the current generation.Three different ways to drive that leave a small footprint.
In an effort to leave less of a carbon footprint, The 2010 Prius is the first hybrid to offer three distinctly different driving modes: EV-mode, Eco-mode, and Power-mode. EV and Eco modes leave smaller carbon footprint. Choose to drive in EV-mode and the Prius will run solely on its electric motor while at low speeds for about 1.6 kms. The Eco-mode is specially designed to help the driver achieve better fuel economy, while the Power mode, as the name suggests, provides a “sportier feel.”The 2010 Prius harnesses the sun to cool the cabin
Toyota’s first available solar panel moonroof is designed to keep the interior cabin cool when you’re not on the road and parked in the sun. The 2010 Prius offers many innovations with over 1,000 patents* covering everything from performance, comfort, convenience, and safety systems. Other features include available high-tech steering wheel touch tracer controls which help reduce driver distraction by providing feedback via the instrument panel display. An Intelligent Parking Assist feature is also available - a Toyota first.Sleeker, sexier, and more efficient.
The 2010 Prius also received more hours of testing in a wind tunnel than any other Toyota. By focusing on every curve, every angle, and every detail, the designers of the new Prius were able to reduce the coefficient of drag (Cd) to 0.25, compared to 0.26 for the previous model. This gives the 2010 Prius less wind resistance while providing better fuel efficiency. All in all, the 2010 Toyota Prius is what other cars will strive to be in five years.
